Review of Frozen 2 (Spoiler alert)

Let it gooo
Let it gooo
Can't hold it back anymore

After six years of hearing or probably singing these lines over and over again at the top of your lungs, you are finally able to change the lyric to

Into the unknown....
Into the unknown......

Yup, after six years, Disney finally provided us the sequel of one of the most successful animated movies, Frozen. I watched Frozen when I was still a university student without any income, so I didn't go to a cinema to watch it, I waited until a friend of mine downloaded the movie instead. But now, I'm already earning, so watching movies at the cinema isn't a big deal anymore. Although affordable, I really rarely go to the cinemas. Usually I go with some friends after office, but a few days ago I decided to go by myself, to tick off one item from my bucket list.

There were only 3 movies screened at the Djakarta theatre at that time, Frozen 2 and two others movies whose titles I don't remember. As I had predicted, the cinema halls were full of kids and accompanying parents. I was sitting between 2 families, one of which consisted of a father and his daughter who kept on talking during the movie. To be honest, it was kinda annoying.

Anyway, here's what I think of the movie and you're very welcomed to have different opinions :)

Frozen 2 is as good as Frozen, if not better...

I'm not only talking about the songs, I'm also talking about the story line. It's not easy to make a good sequel of a successful movie; sometimes they just make sequels because of the demands of the fans, and unsurprisingly the story line ends up being too "forced". But Frozen 2 isn't like that, the story goes in line with its precedent.

Elsa is constantly bothered by a voice, she feels like something is calling her, a mystery is waiting for her, and to solve it she needs to go into the unknown. One night, she finally gives up pretending not hearing the voice. Her power awakens something great and a disaster comes to the kingdom. The people are evacuated away from the palace and Elsa decides that she’s responsible to bring peace once again to the kingdom. She has to go to the forest and find out what’s actually going on. Anna, being a protective and stubborn little sister that she is, refuses to be left behind. She insists that she has to go along. And of course, Kristof, Olaf and Sven tag along as well.

They finally reach the forest and magically go through the thick mist. There, they meet the tribe people as well as the remaining troops of Elsa’s grandfather. Elsa and Anna find out that to be able to solve the mystery, they have to “tame” four elemental spirits, wind, fire, water, and rock. One Northuldran girl sees Elsa’s scarf is surprised and asked her where she got it because it has the pattern of Northuldran pattern. Hearing this, Elsa and Anna realize that their mother was actually the girl who saved their father. She was a Northuldran and this explains why Elsa has a magical power. The girl then tells Elsa that there’s actually a fifth spirit, and through several events, Elsa realizes that she is the fifth spirit.

Elsa and Anna see their parents’ broken ship and find a map there. It’s told that the day they left them, they were going to Ahtohallan. The two women then decide they should go there to find out the truth. But Elsa thinks it’s safer to go by herself; she then sends Anna and Olaf away using her power.
Elsa rides the water spirit in the form of water, Nokk, to reach Ahtohallan. There, she finds her past, and she looks embarrassed seeing her past self singing Let It Go. She also finds out that it was her grandfather who attacked the Northuldrans first.

However, the deeper she goes to her past, the stronger a power attacks her, and finally she gets frozen. In Frozen, it’s Anna who is Frozen, and in Frozen 2, it’s Elsa’s turn.

Now we follow Anna’s story, she realizes that in order to lift off the mist from the forest, she has to destroy the dam. She uses the power of the rock spirit to do that. She’s however really sad to do that because that means the water will destroy her kingdom, but she knows that it’s the right thing to do.
Once the dam is broken, Elsa gets unfrozen, and using her power, she protects Arendelle from the water. In the end, she decides that Arendelle needs a new ruler, and she believes that Anna will be a better queen than her. She decides to stay in the forest with the Northuldran, and she can make frequent visits to meet her sister and others riding Nokk.

Okay, I’m really bad in retelling the story, but this is what I remember, really sorry for missing so many details haha. Anyway, what I really like about Frozen 2 are:

1. Funny scenes when Kristof tries to propose to Anna
2. The reason why Elsa has power is finally revealed, although it doesn't explain why Anna isn't gifted with the same power
3. Elsa and Anna's sisterhood, I really wish I had a sister
4. The sad scenes when Elsa finds out about the past, I cried a bit :(

Personally, I like Frozen 2 better than Frozen, but seeing other reviews, many people think otherwise. What about you? Which one do you like more?
