Fun Activities in Singaraja
There’re so many challenging activities I want
to do in this life. Sadly, I’m too scared to do most of them.
One the things that I’d always wanted to try
was Flying Fox. Actually, I’ve tried this once in the first year of college
when I was registering to join the Nature Lovers club. But it wasn’t a real
flying fox, it was short and not too high, especially installed by the members
of the club to attract the new students.
Another reason why I never tried real flying
fox before was because I couldn’t afford it hehe.
It’s not that expensive compared to other
things I want to try, but as a student I didn’t have enough money for that.
So then when I finally got a job, I decided
that I had to try it. A.S.A.P.
In April 2016, I went home first time I went
home to Bali after having been working in Jakarta for 4 months. I visited
Singaraja, the city where I went to college. Not only did I miss the city and
friends but I also wanted to have fun at the newly opened tourist spot there,
Krisna Adventures- Aling-Aling Waterfall. This place is an adventure park
located in Sambangan village, about a 20 minute drive from the city.
I went there with some of my juniors in college
and also two former batch mates who were still in Singaraja because they hadn’t
graduated yet. We went there by motorcycles and it was kinda hard to park since
the parking lot hadn’t been completed yet (pretty sure now it is).
The entrance fee at that time was just IDR
5,000 (less than USD 0.5), and with that money we were given a small bottle of
mineral water.
To enjoy the activities offered at that place,
we had to pay more:
* ATV single ride :
IDR 150,000 per person
* ATV tandem ride :
IDR 125,000 per person
* Flying fox : IDR
40,000 per person
I felt
relieved that the flying fox activity was affordable. Two friends (they were bf
and gf who sadly have broken up now) were excited to try the flying fox and
they would do it together. I needed a partner so I asked a friend to join me as
well. He was so reluctant, saying “I’m not interested at all.” But I kept on
begging (half forcing) him until he finally said yes.
The
couple did it first and we took pictures of them. Then, it was my turn. I was
so thrilled, unlike my friend who looked so forced. Well, he was :D
The staff
helped me put on my harness and after everything was ready, I finally did it! I
did flying fox and it was so much fun! It felt really great to move from one
place to another hanging on a rope. When I reached the other place and my feet
touched the ground, I really wanted to try again but IDR 40,000 was a big
amount of money too, so I decided not to. I looked at my friend and noticed
that his face was pale. I asked if he was okay and he said yeah.
After
seeing the pictures taken my other friends I realized that my friend was
actually scared of height but he was too embarrassed to admit it haha. At least
he didn’t faint!
After
trying the flying fox, we went to Aling-Aling waterfall located in the area. We
needed to descend a set of steep steps. We had to be extra careful because the
steps were so slippery. Done with the steps, we had to walk on a river bank.
The water of the river was so clean and clear and I really regretted not
bringing any swimsuits. About 20 meters away from the waterfall, we stopped and
sat on rocks because apparently we couldn’t reach the waterfall without getting
wet and none of us were bringing extra clothes. We had to be satisfied by just
taking pictures of the waterfall from afar. We have to be better prepared next
time :D
UPDATE:
So I just got another chance to visit this place a few days ago with a friend. I was well prepared: I brought swimming suit and a change of clothes because I really wanted to visit the waterfall, swim under it, and enjoy the waterfall sliding activity. Sadly, it was raining when we were there, so we couldn't do it.
We tried a new activity instead: Tandem Sky Biking. We had to pay IDR 60,000 for the ride, but if you opt to ride the single sky bike, you only need to pay IDR 30,000.
I was kinda scared at first, but when we did it it didn't feel frightening at all. I really enjoyed the ride and will probably do it again, alone this time.
And yeah, I tried the flying fox once again, and it was a better experience than the first one. I even took my phone with me and recorded everything. Thank God my phone didn't slip :D
