A Tale of a Little Girl and the Sun

 Only you will get it...

Long long time ago, in a faraway land, lived a pretty little girl. The girl lived by herself in the South Pole. She had no friends, nor did she have any neighbors. Her only companions were the penguins and the seals.

It was always cold in the South Pole, and always cloudy. Snow fell throughout the year. The girl loved snow, but she knew that the world wasn’t just the whiteness of snow, wasn’t just cold and icy air. Thus, she decided to leave her tiny igloo. She walked through the snow, day after day, night after night. After what felt like infinity, she finally reached a land in which she found things she had never seen before. She saw that instead of ice, the ground was covered by smooth green stuff. She also found colorful flowers and beautiful butterflies flying around them. She was really happy. She jumped, she ran, and she rolled on the grass.

And then she lay down and looked up at the vast blue sky. Her eyes caught a shining yellow ball in the sky. She had never seen such a thing in her homeland. She kept staring at the ball, “What are you?” she asked, without expecting a reply.

“I’m the Sun.”

The little girl startled, “You, you talk?”

“I do.” answered the Sun.

The girl smiled, amazed, “What was your name again?”

“Sun.”

“Sun? What are you doing up there, Sun? Come down. Let’s play together.”

“I can’t go down. The sky is my place. I keep an eye on everything on the Earth. I might look small, but actually I’m the center of everything. The Earth, and other planets, revolve around me.”

The little girl’s mouth was wide open in awe. Right at that moment; she fell in love with The Sun. She kept talking to the Sun, asking him the names of the new things she had just discovered, like the grass, flowers, butterflies, stones, soil, everything. The Sun answered all of the little girl’s questions patiently. They grew really close, they called each other bae. After hours of talking, the girl felt so sleepy. She yawned a few times. The Sun sang some lullabies and the little girl drifted into a deep sleep.

A few hours later, the little girl woke up in the dark. She was so scared. She kept calling her friend, “Bae, where are you? Bae, answer me!” She screamed at the top of her lungs but she got no reply. She became so sad. She cried her eyes out.

But some moments later, she saw the east sky get brighter. She rubbed her eyes, afraid that it was just her hallucination. But it got brighter and brighter, then, there he was. The Sun came from behind the hills. The little girl stood up and said, “Bae! I thought you left me! I thought I’d never see you again.”

The Sun gave her his warmest smile, “Hey stupid girl, I’m always with you.”

They talked and talked and talked until finally it was time for the Sun to go. The little girl cried, begging her best friend not to leave her.

“I’ll only go for a while. I’ll come back soon. I promise.”

The girl shook her head, “Noooooo......”

“I’ll come back soon.”

“No.. no... please don’t go.. I cannot live without you.”

“I’m sorry, I have to go now.” The Sun disappeared at the west sky. The girl cried in the darkness. She felt so hopeless, her only friend left her. She was all alone again.

The next morning, when the Sun came again, he greeted her, “Hey there, my sweetest bae.”

The girl showed him a sad face.

“What’s wrong?”

“You know what’s wrong, don’t you?”

“Hmmm I don’t know.”

“Think it yourself.”

“Hey.. Tell me...”

“I don’t wanna talk to you,” replied the girl, and then she lay down, her back to the Sun. She cried again.

The Sun tried his best to make the little girl talk, but she wouldn’t say a word. The Sun cracked hilarious jokes, but she wouldn’t even smile, “I’m sorry bae, my time is up. I have to leave you now.”

The girl lifted up hear head. Her moist eyes stared at the Sun, “Why? Why do you have to go? Why don’t you just stay with me?”

“My stupid bae, I have to greet my other friends on the other side of the Earth.”

Sadness, anger and jealousy became one and the girl spoke with trembling voice, “You! You are my only friend! But you betray me and our friendship! You cheat on me! Go... Go... Don’t show me your face ever again!”

The Sun wanted to reply, but it was too late. It was his time to shine up on the other side of the Earth. After the Sun left, the little girl cried again. She felt her heart ache, she couldn’t think of anything but the Sun. She tried to sleep, but her eyes refused to close. The little girl thought the Sun wouldn’t come again after their fight, but the next morning, he showed his idiotic face, “Good morning bae.”

The girl heard the Sun’s greeting, but she didn’t reply. She pretended to sleep. The sun kept on trying to converse with her, but he failed. Until finally he had to go, “See you tomorrow,” he said. The girl kept silent.

The same thing happened the next day, and the next, and the next. The little girl became sadder and weaker. She was just skin and bones. The Sun became so sad seeing his best friend in that condition. And then one morning he said, “Please bae. Don’t do this to me. I wanna see your smile, listen to your stories. I wanna make you happy.”

The girl shook her head weakly, “Go talk to your other friends. I don’t wanna talk to you.”

“Please stop doing this to me. Tell me what I should do to get my bae back. I will do anything to get her back.”

“Anything?”

“Yes, anything.”

“Can you be with me all the time?”

The sun looked hesitant, “But.. What about my other friends?”

“See? I knew you wouldn’t do it for me!” The girl cried again.

“Ssshhh sshhh.. Okay, I won’t leave you. I’ll stay with you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Anything for my bae.”

“Yaaayyy...” a smile found his way to the girl’s face. She suddenly got her strengths again, “Hip hip hurray...” she jumped a few times. “Never leave me again, okay?”

“Ookay”

The little girl was so happy, and the Sun was too. They smiled. They laughed. They cracked jokes. They told stories. They sang. The girl had never been that happy in her life before, and neither had the Sun. They felt so complete together, as if they were made for each other.

But their happiness didn’t last long. A few days after being together, things started to change. The grass was drying. The trees were dying, leafless. The flowers lost their petals. The butterflies almost died of thirst and hunger. It was a lot different from the first time the little girl set her feet in that place.

“What is happening? Why is everything dying?” the little girl asked.

“This side of the Earth is tired of me. I think it’s time for me to go.”

“No... You can’t leave me. You promised you would be with me!”

“But...”

“You are mine, and I don’t give you permission to go.”

“Hm... Okay.”

They continued living as usual, but worse things began to happen. Earthquake occurred frequently. There were flames in the forest because it was so dry. And it was really hard to find water because the rivers had dried, “Bae... I think I really have to go. The nature lost its balance because I have been staying too long here. ” the Sun said.

The girl looked so sad, but seeing everything dying around her, she had no choice but to agree, “I’m gonna miss you.” she said, holding back her tears.

“Eh... stupid girl. I will not go forever, I’ll come back soon.”

“But still, I’ll miss you when you are not here.” Tears ran down her cheeks.

“Hey hey hey.. Bae, please don’t cry. Wipe out your tears. I’ll come back in no time.” The Sun tried to convince the girl.

“Hmmm...”

“Smile please.”

The girl just looked at the Sun blankly.

“Please....”

The girl tried to smile.

“Good girl.”

After making sure that the girl would be okay, the Sun left her. He went the other side of the Earth, greeting his other friends whom he hadn’t met in a long time. The side of the Earth in which the girl lived, finally experienced night again. Cold winds blew, and the clouds were damp. Dew drops were found on the dying grass at dawn. The little girl sat, hugging her knees. She felt so lonely, missing her bae a lot. But a few hours later, the bright east sky came; it brought smile to the girl’s face, “Bae...” she shouted.

The Sun smiled, “Morning, bae.”

“I missed you.”

“Me too, bae.”

The girl made an upset face.

“What?” asked the Sun.

“Huh..”

The Sun giggled, “I missed you too bae.”

They talked to each other until it was time for the sun to leave. The girl felt lonely again. In the darkness, she cried. But soon, she ran out of tears. And then she decided to look around. The grass had started to come back to life, the flowers had started to bloom. The little girl stood up and started to walk around. In her loneliness, she found out that it was nice at night too. She heard some night creatures sing, creating a beautiful melody. She looked up at the sky, wishing she could see her bae, but of course he wasn’t there. However, it wasn’t as bad as she thought before. She found many tiny dots up there, there were thousands of them, no, millions! And then, her eyes caught something else, another ball who had just come back from her haven behind the clouds, “Beautiful...” The girl was astonished.

“Hey there.” That ball spoke to her.

“You... you talk too?”

That ball smiled, “I do. Actually I have been trying to talk to you since the first day I met you, but it seemed like you were deep in your grief that you didn’t notice my existence. Anyway, my name is the Moon. As the Sun is the king of day, I’m the queen of night.”

“Miss Moon, you are so beautiful.”

“Thank you, you are beautiful too.”

And then, the two of them became friends. They kept on talking until the moon had to go, and the east sky got bright as the sign that the sun would come soon.

“Good morning baeeeee.” The little girl greeted the Sun cheerfully.

“Morning bae, what happened? You look so happy today.”

The little girl told the Sun about the Moon, “She is so beautiful. She looks like you, but calmer and softer. I feel so happy talking to her.”

Hearing this, the Sun couldn’t help but feeling a little bit jealous, “Oh, you got a new friend. “ he said coldly.

The little girl laughed, “Somebody is jealous.” she teased him.

“Hmm...”

“Baeeee...”

“What?”

“Even though I have a new friend, you’ll always be my best friend. You are my bae. I love you so much.”

“Hmmm”

“Say...”

“What?”

“You know what.”

The Sun smiled seeing the girl’s cuteness even when she was kind of mad, “I love you too.”

The girl giggled childishly, “Nice nice.”

And then, they all lived happily ever after.

The end.
