I Survived "The Great War"

"I will always be yours

'Cause we survived the Great War

Uh-huh

I vow I will always be yours"

The Great War - Taylor Swift

Yup, I survived the great war of getting The Eras Tour ticket!

Seeing Taylor Swift in person; screaming all the words to all the songs she sings has always been my dream. I cannot put into words how much she means to me. I cannot thank God enough for her existence.

Now, she’s in the midst of her legendary The Eras Tour. Arguably, it’s the most phenomenal tour of all time! She’s at her peak. Everyone and their mother seem to love her and want to attend the concert. No wonder trying to get a ticket feels like a literal nightmare!

The story started when it was hot and it was summer (to be fair, it’s aways hot in Jakarta); I was about to sleep when a Singaporean friend texted me, saying Taylor Swift had just announced that she would bring The Eras Tour to Singapore. I replied saying it’s just a rumor. But then…. All of my Swifties WhatsApp groups went into a frenzy. The rumor was true!

The presale (only for UOB card holders) would be held on July 5 and the general sale on July 7. My friends and I made Ticketmaster accounts. I made two to increase my chances of getting the general on sale code (I know someone wo made 8!).

While waiting for the general on sale day, I tried my best to find someone having a UOB card that I could borrow. Alas, I didn’t find any.

Next chapter: the D-day arrived. It was chaotic to say the least. No one in my friend group managed to secure a ticket even though there were 2 people having UOB cards. We didn’t lose hope. We prayed that we’d get the code. But guess what, out of, like, 30 emails we registered, only 1 was sent the “Congratulations” email; the rest was waitlisted

Still, we didn’t lose hope. There was one other way we could get the ticket: Klook! I installed the app and registered.

Finally, it was July 7. The second great war began! As much as I wanted to stand by with my laptop in my quiet room, I had to go to office and attend a meeting. The meeting started at 8.30 and was supposed to end at 11.30. But it got stretched until 11.58! I hurriedly exited the meeting room with an open laptop in my hands. I then opened the Klook app on my phone and kept refreshing until I was on the queue page. 3737! Not bad, I thought. It took like 10 minutes to get to the booking page. I was only given 5 (whole) minutes to check out. I panicked, trying to get the cheapest ticket, but it was sold out. “Fuck it”, I chose a random clickable date and package. The price was IDR11.5M. I asked my friends if I should buy it and everyone said yes. So yeah, I booked it. Another drama took place though, I put a wrong phone number! I corrected it swiftly. The OTP came, I input it. But it said there was an info I didn’t input yet. I almost lost hope, I saw it was 13 seconds left! It felt like a fox being hunted by the hunters!

Thankfully, a friend came to my rescue. She noticed that I needed to add my email! I did it in less than 10 seconds!

I got the confirmation email and everyone in the roomed cheered for me!

Words can’t describe how happy and relief I was! Finally! Finally! I’m seeing Taylor Alison Swift! Can’t wait! Can’t wait!
